Our community has a strong tradition of respecting and honoring the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces. Veterans contribute significantly to the character of our communities, and recognizing their service—both publicly and through local support—is an important responsibility.
It is imperative we maintain and expand the ways our towns honor veterans, including:
Preserving Local Traditions: Ensuring that the Memorial Day parade continues each year so residents have the opportunity to gather, reflect, and honor those who gave their lives in service to the country.
Supporting Veterans Organizations: Local clubs such as the American Legion, AMVETS, and VFW face financial challenges, aging facilities, and rising operational costs. These organizations play key roles in community events, outreach, and support services for veterans.
Encouraging Community Engagement: Working with local leaders and volunteers to sustain participation in ceremonies, wreath-layings, honor guard activities, and educational programs that help younger generations understand the meaning of service.
Helping Connect Veterans to Resources: Promoting awareness of state and federal programs related to health care, housing, employment, and mental health services that veterans may be eligible to receive.
